On October 24, the farm project week celebrated its premiere at the Georg School. Even before school started in the morning, you could hear about this project on Radio WMW. During this project week, the children were to deal extensively with topics such as agricultural machinery, milk and meat production or grain, in order to give them a realistic picture of modern agriculture. This plays a central role in our society.
We received a lot of support from the farmers in the area. Many invited us to visit their farms, despite the busy period (it was harvest time!). The chairman of the local association, Mr. Michael Hewing, was particularly committed.
Many thanks to all for their time and effort!
On the first day, some classes were able to visit a corn chopper. Mr. Droste and Mrs. Röttgers from the company Agravis took a lot of time and explained the machine in great detail. In addition, the children had the opportunity to sit in the driver's cab themselves. Many thanks for the exhibition of the corn chopper and the personnel support!
Classes 1b, 2b and 4a set off early in the morning to visit various farms. Class 1b visited the Rottmann farm, class 2b the Berges farm, and class 4a visited the Schulze Dinkelborg and Oing farms.
Furthermore, during the entire project, students were able to admire WLV display cases showing the interaction between the farm and the biogas plant. In addition, the model of a contractor (including vehicles) was exhibited.
A farm mobile (also kindly loaned by the WLV) offered further opportunities to inform oneself about the topic of agriculture or to milk a wooden cow. In addition, there was a wheel of fortune, where there were also small prizes (many thanks to the Volkbank) to win.
A big thank you also goes to the company Söbbeke, which provided yogurt and cream kefir for the children to taste.
After the first day was clear for all: we look forward to the next three days!
