Working groups
Voluntary work groups (e.g. Bee-Bot-AG, Art-AG) can only be set up if there are enough teacher hours and the compulsory lessons are covered in all classes.
Extracurricularvenues
Many teaching topics and contents give us the opportunity to get out of the school and provide the students with concrete observation and direct experience for the learning process through class walks, field trips, visits to museums and businesses, etc.
Consulting
The intensive counseling of our students and their parents is very important to us. In addition to individual counseling by class teachers and the school principal, our trained guidance counselor Mr. Ließem is also available for all questions and problems.
Federal Youth Games
The Bundesjugendspiele take place once a year as part of a sports festival.
Clownsand cowboys
Clowns and cowboys, witches and pirates show up at our school every year on the Thursday before Shrove Monday, when carnival is celebrated throughout the school from 1st to 4th period. Shrove Monday is usually a floating vacation when school is closed.
Enrollment
Our students should not come to school unprepared. That is why events are held early on to exchange information and get to know each other:
- School registration and school readiness test
- school medical examination
- Contacts with the kindergartens
- Parents' evening before the big vacations
The registration of school newcomers takes place at the school by November 15 of the year before enrollment, and the school medical examination takes place at the kindergarten.
According to the decision of the school conference, the enrollment ceremony will take place on the 2nd school day after the summer vacations, so that the 3rd classes can practice their presentation once again and parents who have to accompany older siblings to a secondary school on the first school day have the opportunity to participate in the enrollment ceremony.
Parents of 2nd graders provide table decorations and supervise the waiting adults in the schoolyard.
Parent information
Parent information "Georgschule aktuell" and class-specific parent letters are transmitted via "Schoolfox" and inform parents about all important dates and events at the school.
Parent-teacher conferences
Parent-teacher conferences are held twice a year, in the fall and in the spring, so that parents can find out about their child's development and level of achievement. Of course, appointments with the teachers can also be made in between.
English
English is taught as a subject from grade 3.
Apologies
Parents should inform the school immediately if their child cannot attend classes, otherwise we will be concerned about the child's whereabouts. The deregistration should preferably be done via "Schoolfox". An additional written excuse is then no longer necessary. In individual cases, a medical certificate must be submitted.
Education
As the word implies, guardians are the ones who bear the main responsibility for their child's education. School education can then build on this and complement it. An important aspect is intensive and equal cooperation between family and school.
Educationalinfluences
If a child misbehaves, the school must take educational measures according to § 53 SchulG NRW. This includes, for example, admonishment, educational discussion, reworking of unfinished tasks, exclusion from the current lesson or temporary removal of objects. If a child repeatedly stands out, the parents will be informed and, if necessary, invited to a discussion.
Festivalsand celebrations
In each school year there are many opportunities for celebrations and festivities in the classes or with the whole school. Every 4 years a big school festival takes place, so that every child can take part in it once in his or her primary school years.
Support lessons
All children should be supported in such a way that every child can achieve success. Therefore, in addition to the differentiated support measures in class lessons, support groups are set up for the individual year groups for children with reading and spelling difficulties and for pupils with problems in mathematics, if the supply of teacher hours allows. Priority is given to additional remedial lessons for younger children. If possible, additional support lessons will also be set up in the area of perception.
Support association
A few years ago the "Förderverein der Georgschule" was founded. It has set itself the goal of promoting our school education and educational work with actions and through financial support. The annual membership fee is 12 € (there are no upper limits). It is also possible to make a one-time donation (with a donation receipt) to the association independent of membership.
Treasure trove
Leftover clothes, bags, etc. can be picked up in the lost and found in the Forum (anteroom of the side entrance). Valuables (jewelry, keys, glasses...) are kept by our janitor. Anything not picked up will be given to charity at the end of the school year.
Commoneducation (GU)
Children with special educational needs can be taught in a regular school at the request of their parents. However, the elementary school curriculum does not apply to them. A special education teacher supervises these children for a few hours each week, and they receive adapted tasks in the remaining lessons.
Church services
As a Catholic elementary school, Christian values and cooperation with the churches form the basis of our school program. In addition to church services on special occasions (school enrollment, farewell to the 4th grade, etc.), school church services are held on certain Thursdays, alternating with the Overberg School and the Hermann-Löns School. They are part of the religious education lessons and are prepared and organized jointly by children and teachers.
Homework
Homework supplements the work done at school. It is assigned regularly and written down. If the homework is not on time and complete, the parents will be informed.
Janitor
The janitor of our school is Mr. Berthold Fleer. His office is located in the administration wing (right corridor, 2nd door).
Homepage
The school's own homepage can be accessed athttps://gs.gronau.schule.de. Here you can get information about dates, people and addresses, but also learn a lot of interesting facts about our school.
Interculturallearning
In our school, German and foreign children live together and learn from each other. An encounter with other cultures always includes an encounter with the language, e.g. Dutch, Turkish, Italian, Portuguese.
Inclusion
Increasingly, and at the request of parents, children with learning, language, and emotional-social developmental problems are being taught in mainstream schools.
IPads
We live in a media-driven world today. With our media concept, we want to make a contribution to media education. In each class, there are at least five IPads with child-friendly learning programs for mathematics, language and science that our students can use. These are networked with the and can thus also be used for research, for example.
Boysand girls
Boys and girls have equal rights and are supported according to their specific needs and development opportunities. For example, we make a point of providing books for both genders in the class libraries.
Class library
There is a class library in every class. Each child may and should borrow a book if he or she feels a desire to read (and we want to awaken this desire). We also work together with the public library in Gronau-Epe, which we naturally visit with the children at least twice during the primary school years.
School trips
At least once a year our children go on a class trip. In grade 3 or 4, a trip of several days to a youth hostel is usually planned.
Class teachersand teachers
They are important reference persons for the children and the first point of contact for the parents. They therefore have a large part of the lessons in their class and usually look after the children until the end of the school day. The parallel teachers take over the class teacher duties in case of illness.
Conrector
Mrs. Ursula Schneider is the Konrektorin of the Georgschule and substitutes for the Rektorin in her absence.
Legend ofthe knight George
In Silena in North Africa, the people lived in fear and terror of a hideous dragon that dwelled in a pond outside the city gates. He devastated their fields and fields, stole sheep and cows from the pastures and polluted the air with his poisonous breath. When there were no animals left, people had to be sacrificed. Each time the lot was cast. One day the lot fell on the king's daughter. The king's daughter said goodbye, crying, and went trembling to the gate of the city. Then the Roman knight George came riding along. She told him everything and he promised to help her. Suddenly the dragon crawled out of the pond. George jumped on his steed, made the sign of the cross, rode against him and pierced him with his lance. The dragon was badly wounded. Now George said to the king's daughter: "Take your belt and throw it around the monster's neck." She did so and the dragon followed her like a tame puppy. When they entered the city, the people fled. But George beckoned them and said: "Do not be afraid, for God has sent me to you. Therefore, be baptized as Christians, and I will slay this dragon. Then the king and all the people were baptized with him, and George drew his sword and slew the dragon with one blow (cf. Jacobus de Voragine (from: Bausteine Lesebuch 3)).
Teachers' lounge
The teachers' lounge is located in the administration wing (right hallway, 4th door).
Teachingand learning aids
Teaching and learning materials are for the most part provided by the school. They are intended to guarantee that children can learn and comprehend in a variety of ways. One third of the school book expenses are to be paid by the parents (legal requirement). All books must be immediately marked with a cover and the name. If a borrowed textbook is damaged, the parents must reimburse a proportion of the replacement value, depending on the age of the book.
Learningand performing
All elementary school children want to learn and achieve something, and every child should experience that he or she can do something. Therefore, all teachers strive to meet the different learning developments of the children through differentiated requirements and tasks and to maintain the joy of learning and the children's willingness to perform through learning situations that enable discovery and action-oriented learning, "learning with head, heart and hand".
Reading Parents
For several years now, reading parents have been supporting us in our efforts to awaken and maintain the children's motivation to read. Arrangements are made with the respective class teacher.
Reading Paradise
Our reading paradise was officially opened in March 2011. It is a cozy reference library with books in four reading levels, including non-fiction books. All classes reserve one fixed lesson per week as part of free reading time. With the help of a reading card, the children can note which book they would like to continue reading from which page. Once they have finished a book, they can use the Antolin reading program, for which we have a school license, to show whether they have understood the book.
Readingand spelling difficulties (LRS)
Pupils with reading and spelling difficulties are supported not only in class but also - if sufficient hours are available - in additional measures.
Lunch time supervisionuntil 14:00 (ÜMI)
A childcare group has been set up at our school where, for example, children of working parents can be looked after after school until 14:00. The parents' association "Schülerbetreuung an der Georgschule Epe e.V." is responsible for this and you must become a member in order to use the childcare service. The supervisors are Mrs. Haget, Mrs. Lenz and Mrs. Werner. Application forms can be found on the Georgschule homepage in the download area.
Musicallessons
Promoting the musical and practical skills of our pupils is also very important to us. For this reason, we have set up a special music room.
Notes
In grades 1 and 2, all students receive a so-called check-off report at the end of the school year. Statements on work and social behavior, learning development, and performance in the subjects are documented according to four levels of competence. From grade 3 on, additional grades are given in the subjects and there is one report card per semester. In grade 4, only grades in the subjects are given in the report card, which is supplemented by a recommendation for secondary schools in the mid-year report card. All grades are based on the mandatory standards of the subjects. Not only results, but also efforts and learning progress are evaluated.
Fruit
Fruits, vegetables, whole grains and dairy products are - as everyone knows - better for school breakfasts than sweet juices and sweets. And since we want to avoid waste, we prefer sandwich tins and reusable drinking bottles.
Order
Order must be, because it facilitates learning! Therefore, regularly at home the satchel must be checked so that it does not become too heavy, so that all necessary materials are present, so that too full folders are emptied, ...
Regulatory measures
Disciplinary measures must be taken when educational interventions are not sufficient. They come into play when a child's serious or repeated misconduct seriously endangers the fulfillment of school duties or the rights and safety of others. Disciplinary measures can only be decided in conferences and must be announced in writing to the parents with reasons.
Certain misconduct, however, is considered so massive that it must immediately lead to consequences as an "urgent case". As a rule, the parents are called and asked to pick up their child. If they refuse, the police are informed, who then take the child away and report the case to the Youth Welfare Office. The parents must then pick up their child from the station.
Openall-day school
In the 2005/06 school year, a group from the open all-day school began its work. It is run by the "OGS an der Georgschule" childcare association. The school management is the contact person for you. The OGS coordinator is Mrs. Martina Theis. The childcare fee is set by the town of Gronau. An additional €65 per month must be paid for lunch, which is supplied by the company Appetito. All costs are collected by direct debit. The OGS ends at 16:00, children can be picked up until 16:30.
Breaks
During breaks, children are given the opportunity to engage in a variety of play and sports activities. Our schoolyards offer space for romping and playing and are equipped in a manner suitable for children. To avoid injuries, only the softballs provided in the play garbage cans may be used.
Project weeks
A project week is a special event for the students. This is when the entire school works on a topic from the 1st to the 4th hour. Class or year mixed groups can be formed and often the parents can inform themselves about the results at an open day.
Quality
The quality of our work is important to us. Therefore, we meet frequently for pedagogical conferences and regularly participate in continuing education events. Cooperation and agreements at grade level are common at our school and enrich our joint work.
Cycling training
In order for children to become safe road users, cycling education begins at an early age. A cycling course can be set up in our schoolyard. This allows children in grades 1 and 2 to practice cycling in a safe environment and improve their skills. In addition, the classes practice three times a year with the youth traffic school of the district of Borken.
Shortly before the autumn vacations, the cycling test for the 4th classes takes place. Here we receive support from parents and the police.
Principal
Mrs. Susanne Reckels is the principal of Georgschule. Her principal's office is located in the administration wing (right hallway, 3rd door).
School conference
The school conference at our school consists of six parent and six teacher representatives. Under the chairmanship of the principal, the committee discusses and decides on important matters concerning the school and school life.
School guardianship
The class council chairpersons of all classes form the school council. It is the parents' participation body and elects the chairperson from among its members, who is in constant contact with the school management.
Bulletinboard
A bulletin board hangs in the main entrance. Here parents can find out interesting facts about school life or get information about exhibitions and other events.
Secretary
Mrs. Andrea Kösters is our secretary. She can be reached in the secretary's office from Monday to Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (right corridor, 1st door).
Sportsand swimming
For physical education, we have our own 1 1/2-size gymnasium and the sports field behind the school building. For swimming (from grade 3) the children are taken by bus, in winter to the indoor swimming pool in Gronau, in summer to the outdoor swimming pool in Eper. A swimming course before school is very beneficial.
Office hours
All teachers are available at all times in urgent cases and are grateful for any advice that is in the best interests of the child. In addition, each teacher offers a weekly office hour and is thus available for a personal conversation if necessary and by appointment.
Dailyexercise
Movement is healthy! That's why our students - especially the younger ones - no longer have to sit still for hours like they used to. We try to accommodate the children's urge to move, whether through games to loosen them up in between, through open lessons in which the children can move freely, or through additional yard breaks as needed.
Theater
Every two years, the school usually takes all classes to the theater in Münster to see the Christmas play. To ensure that children from less well-off families can also take part, the Friends of the School pay the bus and entrance fees in an emergency. Alternating with the theater trip, we invite acting troupes to perform their play in the gym.
Accident
Accidents can happen anywhere! We can take care of minor injuries ourselves, for example with plasters and cooling pads. In the case of serious injuries, parents are informed immediately or the emergency number collected during school registration is called; if necessary, an ambulance must be ordered. An injured child is always accompanied by a teacher.
The parent or guardian will inform us immediately if a doctor had to be seen after an accident so that we can write the accident report.

In case of bad weather, students, especially bus children, may stay in the Forum (side entrance vestibule) before school starts.
Class visitsby parents
Parents have the right to attend their child's lessons in a listening capacity, after consultation with the respective teacher.
Comparative work
At the end of grade 3, comparative tests are written in mathematics and German throughout the state. Parents are informed about the performance of their child and the class.
Insurance
On the direct way to school and in school, all children are insured by the municipal accident insurance. Theft or destruction of property can be reported to the office. The necessary notifications will be made there.
Substitute teaching
If a teacher falls ill at short notice, the affected class will have lessons as scheduled. Necessary class cuts will only take place if parents have been informed at least one day in advance. Even then, we make every effort to teach the students for at least four hours. Supervision of the OGS children and participants in the lunchtime supervision will be guaranteed in any case.
Completeness
Each year, before the summer vacations, the class teachers give out a list of the materials needed for school work. Parents regularly check whether the basic equipment is still complete.
Christmas time
All classes celebrate during the Advent and Christmas seasons. Daily Advent celebrations with candlelight, stories, poems, and songs are common, and celebrations often take place outside of class time with the parents, who also always give us strong support in decorating our large building for Christmas.
Contests
Twice a year, students from our school participate in the school swimming competition. The participants are registered by the sports teachers and still trained separately.
We also regularly take part in the math competition for 4th graders, the Gronau soccer tournament and the Volksbank painting competition.
Dental health
Students are given two school hours each year to learn more about healthy teeth and proper dental care in an age-appropriate manner.
Testimony
Students in 1st and 2nd grades receive a report card at the end of the school year; children in 3rd and 4th grades also receive a report card at the end of the school semester.
Cooperation
Only with the cooperation of all parties involved, school board, district school board, church, teachers, parents, students, administrative staff, can our school be what we want it to be: a home for living, learning, performing and playing.
